Exploring The Silent Valley

Located on the border between the Republic and Northern Ireland and by the shores of Carlingford Lough, the Mountains of Mourne are a stunning area to visit, rich in history and full of beautiful sites to visit. The area has inspired stories and legends and some more recent world renown tales such as CS Lewis’s the Chronicles of Narnia and some of the major filming locations for Game of Thrones.

Nestled deep in the mountains you will find the stunning Silent Valley. Originally built as a reservoir to collect and gather water from the Mournes and to supply most of County Down and a large part of Belfast, it is now renown for it’s beautiful forest park.

Featuring some great walking routes through the forests and surrounding area such as the all-ability loop, the reservoir loop and the viewpoint loop. These walks are a perfect way to take in the heritage and history of the area, such as the Mourne Wall and the Binnian Tunnel.

We highly recommend checking it out for anyone staying in or visiting the area.
